Portola Park - Best Park for Kids
Did you know that in 2008 Portola Park won an award, Best Park for Kids?
Since the City Commissioners of La Habra developed this 10.08 acre park in 1975; to help revitalize the downtown area of La Habra, it has been a favorite spot for the residents of La Habra and Whittier, CA.
Portola Park has a unique theme that makes it fun to visit. The theme is train depots and train cars that house the first Children’s Museum west of the Rocky Mountains and the La Habra Depot Theatre.
La Habra Depot Theatre is housed in a 1909 Train Depot and the Children’s Museum is housed in a 1923 Train Depot. The outside has a 1943 caboose with a dinosaur topiary exhibit and the museum inside offers 14 hands-on exhibits for the children. The La Habra Depot Theatre uses train cars for the actors dressing rooms.
Portola Park just gets better. There are two City-operated day care centers with enclosed playgrounds, which serve over 600 children. La Habra Tennis Center is also located at Portola Park with 12 lighted courts, pro shop, locker facilities, and lessons being offered.
Inside Portola Park there are:
- Three Hardball Fields with Bleachers
- Picnic and Barbecue Areas
- Park Benches
- Paths
- Snack Bar
- Public Restrooms
- Outdoor Stage
Portola Park is an award winning sparking jewel among La Habra parks.
